Exhibition of Italian 1960s Comics: Eureka 鈥� A Forgotten Anglo-Italian Comic Strip Adventure
Founded in 1967 by Luciano Secchi, Eureka was one of the most significant popular Italian comics of the Sixties and Seventies. In a post-war context of relaxed censorship, and amidst the Italian economic boom, Eureka was at the forefront of a new comics craze.
What really set聽Eureka聽apart from other publications was it didn鈥檛 look exclusively to America, or France 鈥� instead, it channelled the London Swinging Sixties vibe. With vibrant, almost psychedelic covers,聽Eureka聽introduced Italian readers to memorable British strips from聽Andy Capp聽迟辞听Tiffany Jones, later adding homegrown productions such as Bonvi鈥檚聽厂迟耻谤尘迟谤耻辫辫别苍听补苍诲听Lupo Alberto.
The exhibition will take Italophiles and enthusiasts of British culture on a journey through the very best comics from the 60s, providing an opportunity to celebrate the forgotten but important Anglo-Italian cultural dialogue. The showcase will also include the graphics of other pop-inspired Italian strips from the period, such as聽Linus, Alter Linus, 补苍诲听Sgt Kirk.
The exhibition is free entry, and will run from the 22 April to 2 July 2024 at the Learning and Resource Centre (LRC), 巨乳无码, College Lane, Chichester, PO19 6PE. The LRC is open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 4pm on weekends.
